University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry Policies
The University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry (URSMD) has updated and revised important medical student policies. Students, residents and faculty should be
aware of these policies to optimize the learning environment. Policies and Procedures are located, in full, in the URSMD student handbook.

Class of 2023 Match Results
From Rochester's class of 2023, 32 students will stay at the University of Rochester Medical Center for their residency training and 70 will go elsewhere. The majority are staying in New York State (44) followed next by Pennsylvania (10), then California (9), and the rest of the 2023 graduates will be in 18 other states. Overall, UR SMD students pursuing residency training were placed in 23 different specialties, with the largest concentrations in Internal Medicine (19), Anesthesiology (9), Pediatrics (8), and Emergency Medicine (8).

2023 Presidential - Stronger as One Diversity Award
Congratulations to fourth year medical student, Dalton LaBarge who received the Change Maker Award during the Presidential – Stronger as One Diversity Award Ceremony! The Presidential Stronger as One Diversity Awards honor faculty, staff, students, the Greater Rochester Community and a member of the Board of Trustees whose actions, activities, and accomplishments support our five institutional equity, diversity, and inclusion priorities toward making the University of Rochester a welcoming an inclusive environment. The recipients of the awards model equity, access and transformative change where all students, staff and faculty can thrive, change and make the organization and its internal and external communities ever better. The Change Maker Award recognizes a student(s) – undergraduate, graduate or postdoctoral fellow and/or student organization that aims to cultivate a fair and just climate, culture and community with an equitable, diverse and inclusive lens at the University of Rochester and/or its surrounding communities. Sarnoff Fellowship for 2023-2024
Congratulations to 3rd year medical student, George Olverson who was awarded a Sarnoff Fellowship for 2023-24. In this prestigious program, he will spend a year research in a biomedical research facility in the U.S. A highly competitive program, the program seeks individuals with “demonstrated intellectual and academic achievement, as well as leadership ability.”

RISE: Developing Future Leaders in Academic Medicine & Science
Kalese Goodwin, Class of 2026 has been chosen to participate in the AAMC’s leadership seminar for rising second year students called RISE: Developing Future Leaders in Academic Medicine & Science. The program will be held in Washington, DC this June.
NEGEA Scholars Grant
Congratulations to Dr. David Staudt who received a Scholars Grant from the NorthEast Group on Student Affairs (NEGEA) for his proposal: “A Realist Evaluation of a Longitudinal Point of Care Ultrasound Program”. Dr. Staudt oversees the ultrasound component of Meliora in Medicine.

The following videos, prepared by the Committee on Media Creation for Giving Effective Feedback at URSMD, provide a resource for faculty, residents, preceptors, small group leaders, and tutors in giving feedback to students.
There are many opportunities to teach medical students at URSMD. Different formats and options include:
- Clinical teaching in the clerkships
- Small Group teaching
- Serving as a Problem Based Learning tutor
- Serving as preceptor for Phase 1 and Phase 2 medical students in primary care offices.
