Alpha Omega Alpha Class of 2023
Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA), founded in 1902, is the national medical honor society. Dedicated to the belief that in the profession of medicine we will improve care for all by recognizing high educational achievement, honoring gifted teaching, encouraging the development of leaders along with supporting the ideals of humanism while promoting service to others.
Election to Alpha Omega Alpha is an honor signifying a lasting commitment to professionalism, leadership, scholarship, research, and community service. A lifelong honor, membership in the society confers recognition for a physician's dedication to the profession and art of healing.

Gold Humanism Honor Society Class of 2023
The Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) recognizes students, residents and faculty who are exemplars of compassionate patient care and who serve as role models, mentors, and leaders in medicine. GHHS members are peer nominated and are the ones that others say they want taking care of their own family.
Membership in GHHS goes beyond selection and induction into an honor society. Its members have a responsibility to model, support, and advocate for compassionate, patient-centered care throughout their careers. The creation of a GHHS chapter signifies to the medical community that an institution places high value on the interpersonal skills and attitudes that are essential for the highest level of patient care.

2022 Student Awards
The Hrolfe and Dorothy Ziegler Prize in Anatomy
The Ziegler children established this prize in honor of Dr. Hrolfe Ziegler, a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Anatomy, a dedicated teacher, and his wife, Dorothy, noted for her hospitality to students and graduates. It is awarded to a medical student for outstanding accomplishments in anatomy.
Matthew Carter, Class of 2025
The Edward F. Adolph Medal in Physiology
This award, established in 1976, is presented annually to a medical student who has displayed diligence and notable scholarship in physiology. The Department of Pharmacology and Physiology faculty selects the candidates.
Sam Libby, Class of 2025
The Victor Meyer Emmel Prize in Histology
The Emmel Prize was established by the Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy to honor Dr. Emmel, a distinguished teacher, scholar and former director of medical histology. It is given to a first year medical or graduate student who best exemplifies the qualities of achievement, professionalism and scholarship that characterized Dr. Emmel.
Rae Yuan, Class of 2025
The Walle J.H. Nauta Award for Excellence in Neurosciences
This annual prize is awarded to a medical student who best exemplifies both scholarly achievement in the neurosciences and the qualities of kindness, compassion and concern for the well-being of others shown by Dr. Nauta, a former member of the faculty of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The Gilbert B. Forbes Prize in Pediatrics
This annual award, established in 1988 by the Department of Pediatrics, commemorates Gilbert B. Forbes, MD, one of the nation’s foremost scholars, researchers and teachers of pediatrics, who served as a member of the department’s faculty for 48 years. Dr. Forbes’ distinguished research career in the study of childhood nutrition and metabolism was exemplified by his enduring enthusiasm for learning. This award is presented to a first or second year medical student or to a graduate student who has achieved a high standard of scholarship and originality in research as exemplified by Dr. Forbes.

The Adenia Andrews Community Service Award
This memorial award was established in 1995 by the Class of 1997 to recognize a medical student of unique promise, compassion and integrity who exemplifies the personal qualities of Adenia as demonstrated by their dedication to community service. Adenia was a member of the Class of 1997 until her death in July 1994 in an automobile accident.

Phase 2 student, Brittany Hodges has been elected to Vice Chair of Region 7 for the Medical Student Section of the AMA and Phase 4 student, Leanna (Leif) Knight whas been elected to Vice Chair of the LGBTQ+ Section Council, a physician led council of the AMA. In addition, two policies written by medical students Shireen Saxena (resolution 301) and Leanna (Leif) Knight (resolution 203) were passed and became AMA policy. Submitted by Shireen Saxena was resolution 301
Phase 3 student, Yoav Kadan has been selected to join the USMLE Medical Student and Resident Advisory Panel.
Phase 4 student, Dalton LaBarge has been selected as a recipient of the 2022 AMA Foundation Underrepresented in Medicine Physicians of Tomorrow Scholarship.
Phase 4 student, Ian Brodka received the Dr. Duane and Joyce Cady/Medical Society of the State of New York Physicians of Tomorrow Scholarship.

The Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism in Medicine Resident Teaching Award
The Arnold P. Gold Foundation, a private non-profit organization, is dedicated to the promotion of humanism in the practice of medicine. Selected by the graduating class, these residents have served as positive role models in their humanistic approach to patients.

The following videos, prepared by the Committee on Media Creation for Giving Effective Feedback at URSMD, provide a resource for faculty, residents, preceptors, small group leaders, and tutors in giving feedback to students.
There are many opportunities to teach medical students at URSMD. Different formats and options include:
- Clinical teaching in the clerkships
- Small Group teaching
- Serving as a Problem Based Learning tutor
- Serving as preceptor for Phase 1 and Phase 2 medical students in primary care offices.
