"For over 50 years, the Cardiothoracic Surgery residency program at the University of Rochester has prepared trainees to become world class Cardiothoracic Surgeons. Under the leadership of Drs. Earl Mahoney, James DeWeese, Seymour Schwartz, George Hicks and Peter Knight the program has graduated over 85 residents who have had illustrious careers in Private Practice and Academic Surgery including 13 Division/ Department Chiefs. Our program offers a diverse and challenging curriculum that encompasses all aspects of cardiothoracic surgery, including aortic surgery, valve repair and replacement, congenital heart surgery, heart transplantation, and minimally invasive procedures. Residents have the opportunity to work alongside world-class faculty who are leaders in their respective specialties, gaining invaluable hands-on experience and mentorship. In addition to the exceptional clinical training, our residency program fosters a vibrant research environment.
