Brief Description
High-Performance Computing supported data storage (online) for scientific computing. The secure computing system permits Rochester researchers to acquire, house, and analyze restricted-use data for scientific research. Access to the CIRC computing system is limited to those using restricted-use data for their research
Example Use
Network Attached Storage for academic research data sets associated with a CIRC computing account. Instrument data including genomic, image, or metabolomics datasets.
Cost
$199 - $299 / TB / Year
Cost dependent on replication configuration.
Capacity
No practical file size limit.
No practical overall limit (costs incurred).
No practical limit to number of files.
Access and Collaboration
Restricted to CIRC Computing Users. Very fine-grained control and enhanced auditing.
Data Allowed
Public data. Sensitive / moderate risk data. Confidential or restricted/high-risk data. FERPA-protected data. HIPAA-regulated data.
URMC researchers needing to store or analyze HIPAA-regulated data should contact CIRC and/or Academic IT before choosing a storage option.
Durability (protection against data loss)
High
Scheduled snapshots.
Availability (protection against downtime)
High
Replication option protects against availability loss due to infrastructure failure. Software and hardware architecture provide availability through routine maintenance windows.
Technical Complexity
Low
A typical user can access with minimal training.
