Minimally Invasive Procedure Helping People with Lower Back Pain
Wednesday, July 31, 2024
Dana Damiani of Spectrum News recently interviewed PM&R's Dr. Adem Aktas about his performance of the Intracept procedure (vertebral nerve radio frequency ablation). This minimally invasive procedure has patients in and out the same day and only takes an hour or two, according to Dr. Aktas. Candidates for this procedure have lived with lower back pain for quite some time, with little to no relief. There are roughly three to four of these procedures done each month.
Dr. Aktas remarked on the utility of the procedure: "It's giving people back function. It's giving them back their autonomy, their lives. There's nothing better than when you find something, you have the right diagnosis, and you've employed the appropriate tool."
Dr. Aktas is the only doctor west of Syracuse performing the Intracept procedure.
