The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is tracking on a rapid faculty and growth initiative consisting of a newly renovated 11 private bed acute inpatient brain injury neuro-rehabilitation unit opening in 2023 in addition to our current 20 bed CARF accredited acute inpatient rehabilitation unit.

In addition, a large part of our practice will now be located at the new state of the art ambulatory musculoskeletal building. Within the new surgery center we have our dedicated ORs and interventional spine procedure suites. We will also have outpatient clinics operating out of the brand-new clinical tower starting fall of 2023.

As we continue to expand the faculty and associated support staff, there are increasing opportunities to pursue individual academic, research and scholarly activities. The department of PMR is also an integral part of the University of Rochester's education mission. Faculty will have the opportunity to teach and mentor a variety of medical students, residents and fellows in multiple settings.

 

Brain Injury Rehabilitation Medicine Subspecialist

This position will provide clinical brain injury expertise within the consult service, acute and subacute inpatient rehabilitation beds, as well as our growing brain injury outpatient populations. This position’s role will have a component of administrative leadership and program development of the outpatient brain injury rehabilitation medicine service line. This position includes the opportunity to interface with clinical trials associated with the Department of PM&R UR Neurorestoration Institute as well as work interface collaboratively with the Departments of Neurology/Neurosurgery Del Monte Neuroscience Institute.  This position comes with a faculty appointment at the University of Rochester School of Medicine.

Ideal candidates would be BC/BE and fellowship trained in brain injury and/or a minimum of 5 years of experience managing brain injury patients.

 

Pediatric PM&R Subspecialist at Strong Memorial and Golisano Children’s Hospital

We are seeking applicants for a faculty position with a primary appointment in the Department of PM&R and secondary appointment in the Department of Pediatrics.

We are seeking expertise with development and management of the growing pediatric inpatient and consultation service as well as the ambulatory pediatric PM&R program. This role carries can carry with it an administrative component as the Chief of Pediatric PM&R with ample opportunity and support to interface with the Department of Pediatrics, Golisano Children’s hospital, the Del Monte Neuroscience Institute, and Rochester Neurorestorative Institute. As a joint appointment with the Department of Pediatrics, this role carries with it an opportunity for a percentage of clinical effort in general Pediatric clinical care, if desired.

Ideal candidates would be BC/BE eligible having completed either a dual PM&R and Pediatrics residency OR a Pediatric PM&R fellowship.

 

Cancer Rehabilitation Medicine Subspecialist

This position’s role will have a component of program development consisting of building a cancer rehabilitation service line from the University of Rochester’s Wilmot Cancer Institute.  The focus will be on developing a cancer rehab consult service, admitting and managing cancer patients into inpatient rehabilitation beds as well as building a robust outpatient practice. This will also include interfacing collaboratively with the Wilmot Cancer Institute.  This position comes with a faculty appointment at the University of Rochester School of Medicine in clinical PM&R, with a joint appointment at the Wilmot Cancer Institute, and potential for a secondary appointment with Hematology/Oncology.

Ideal candidates would be BC/BE and fellowship trained in cancer rehabilitation medicine.

 

Outpatient Physiatry in Beautiful Elmira, NY, Non-Interventional Spine, Pain Management and EMG

This position would also work closely with the Department of Neurosurgery as an outpatient physiatrist to work closely with Neurosurgical faculty members to provide clinical expertise and focus on evaluation and management of spine and pain conditions as well as to perform electrodiagnostic studies in Elmira, NY.

This position comes with a primary faculty appointment at the University of Rochester School of Medicine Department of PM&R and secondary appointment in the Department of Neurosurgery.

Ideal candidates would be BC/BE with experience in management of spine conditions and performance of electrodiagnostic studies.  New graduates are also encouraged to apply.

 

General MSK Physiatrist

This position will work closely with current PM&R faculty to provide clinical expertise in the evaluation and management of hip/knee/shoulder musculoskeletal conditions and performance of EMG/NCS in the Department of PM&R Electrodiagnostic Laboratory.  Though not required, this position’s role will have an opportunity to manage subacute inpatient rehabilitation beds.  In addition, there is ample opportunity to pursue academic and scholarly activity and interests.  This includes support of the education mission consisting of teaching and mentoring fellows, residents and medical students as well as the support to pursue research interests, including the opportunity to interface with basic science research with the Center of Musculoskeletal Research as well as clinical trials and outcome studies utilizing our large PROMIS database.  This position comes with a faculty appointment at the University of Rochester School of Medicine.

Ideal candidates would be BC/BE with experience in management of musculoskeletal conditions and perform of electrodiagnostic studies. 

 

Outpatient Neuropsychologist

This position will perform neuropsychological assessments in our multidisciplinary outpatient PM&R service, as well as the outpatient neuropsychology service. There are additional opportunities to engage in program development and pursue academic and scholarly activities and interests. This includes supporting the educational mission of the university consisting of teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, medical fellows, psychology residents, and psychology fellows, support for research interests, and opportunities to interface collaboratively within and outside the University of Rochester Medical Center (Department of PM&R UR Neurorestoration Institute, Department of Neurology/Neurosurgery Del Monte Neuroscience Institute, Department of Psychiatry, Rochester Center for Brain Imaging, Center for Health Technology, Center for Translational Neuromedicine, and more). The position comes with a faculty appointment at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. 

The candidate must have (1) a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from an APA or CPA-accredited program, (2) be enrolled in or have completed a formal two-year post-doctoral fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology, and (3) be NYS-licensed or license-eligible. ABPP/ABN Board Certification in Clinical Neuropsychology is a plus. Preferred candidates will have prior teaching experience, clinical supervisory skills, experience working in academic medicine, and a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and working with broadly diverse communities.

Outpatient Rehabilitation Psychologist

This role will include the growth of an outpatient psychology clinic that will provide psychotherapy services to rehab patients and their families. Additionally, there are opportunities to perform pre-procedure evaluations, engage in program development, and pursue academic and scholarly activities and interests. These activities include supporting the educational mission of the university, consisting of teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows, along with psychology residents and fellows, support to pursue research interests, and interface collaboratively with the Department of PM&R UR Neurorestorative Institute as well as the Department of Neurology/Neurosurgery Del Monte Neuroscience Institute. The position comes with a faculty appointment at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. 

Ideal candidates would have (1) completed a doctorate in Clinical, Counseling, or Health Psychology from an APA or CPA-accredited program, (2) demonstrated internship or fellowship training in a healthcare setting, and (3) be NYS-licensed or license-eligible. Preferred candidates will have prior rehabilitation experience, clinical supervisory skills, experience working in academic medicine, and a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and working with broadly diverse communities.
