Making Space for Radon in Lung Cancer Prevention Efforts

Making Spaces posterThe IHHE and Wilmot Cancer Institute hosted Stacy Stanifer, PhD, APRN, AOCNS from the University of Kentucky to discuss her work with radon in Kentucky. Dr. Stanifer leads community-engaged research to advance radon risk mitigation, risk messaging, and policy, and serves on boards such as the Kentucky Board of Radon Safety, the Indoor Environment Association Foundation, and the Bluegrass Chapter of Oncology Nursing Society. Dr. Stanifer met with the Wilmot Cancer Institute and IHHE Engagement teams to share University of Kentucky’s approaches to engaging rural communities to reduce radon exposure.

Wool, Water and Wellbeing

March 2025

Wool, Water, and Wellbeing featured artist Michale Glennon, founder of the Wool and Water project at Paul Smith’s College. Her 3-day residency in Rochester explored the connections between water quality and human health through art in five on campus and community-based workshops. Dr. Glennon’s residency in Rochester was facilitated by Rose Pasquarello Beauchamp, Associate Professor in the UR Program of Dance and Movement.

Green Heart for Healthy Communities

March 2025

Natasha DeJarnett PhD, MPH from the University of Louisville visited Rochester to present about the Green Heart Project in Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. DeJarnett provided an overview of the health and equity impacts of climate change and weaved together insights about how increasing access to green space can reduce the negative health impacts of climate change and improve both physical and mental health. Dr. DeJarnett met the EHSC facility and the City of Rochester Forestry Division to discuss the new (2024) Urban Forestry Master Plan.
