As a person ages, their collagen production begins to decline which leads to the breakdown of the skin’s underlying support structure. Daily exposure to UV rays and other environmental elements can cause the skin to become discolored and premature wrinkles may emerge. Treatments with our Cortex laser system will reduce wrinkles and rhytides due to the breakdown of collagen. Skin will have a smoother, tighter texture and pigmentation problems will begin to diminish.

Dr. Mithra O. Gonzalez personally performs all laser treatments with the Cortex system. Laser skin resurfacing, removes the outermost layers of skin and is ideal for fine work or can be used in combination with other procedures such as a blepharoplasty or a facelift. Laser skin resurfacing generally treats:

• Fine lines or wrinkles around or under your eyes, forehead or mouth
• Scars from acne or chickenpox
• Non-responsive skin after a facelift
• Aged or sun-damaged skin
• Liver spots

Deep laser procedures sometimes called “Laser Lifts” are generally used to address deeper wrinkles and areas like the furrows in our brow. Here the Cortex laser will direct a grid pattern of tiny pulses of light at the skin. Each pulse delivers a column of energy that can reach the skin’s dermal layer. This stimulates a natural renewal process of the body’s own collagen. As the collagen renews itself it has an effect of lifting the treated area providing smoothness and fill. Because the laser beam has been fractionized, small areas of untreated skin will be left between the treated spots. By strategically performing the procedure in this manner, the healing process is accelerated.
