Research

Center research and other activities will be propelled by three research and translational themes:

Venn diagram of research areasTheme 1: Critical and sensitive windows of exposure across the lifespan: Center members are uncovering how exposures during particular life stages influence health and disease susceptibility across the lifespan.

Theme 2: Combined exposures and cumulative risk. Understanding health impacts of multiple chemical and non-chemical exposures, experienced simultaneously or separately, and integrating this information with clinical consequences is helping Center members pinpoint how complex exposures influence health.

Theme 3: Connecting exposures, mechanisms, and interventions. Center members are identifying cause and effect relationships between external exposures, internal dose, and clinical consequences. By defining the mechanisms that linking exposures to specific health outcomes, we can more effectively create, implement, and evaluate strategies to reduce and prevent diseases.

Acknowledging the EHSC

The EHSC is supported by a grant from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. We expect all researchers who benefit from and use EHSC resources to acknowledge this funding and the EHSC in publications, poster presentations and talks. This acknowledgement also applies to recipients of Pilot Project funding, regardless of whether they are EHSC members.

Please include the grant number P30 ES001247 in publications and presentations.

When text needs to be included in addition to the grant number, suggested language includes:

  • This work was supported by the University of Rochester Environmental Health Sciences Center (EHSC), an NIH/NIEHS-funded program (P30 ES001247).
  • This publication/presentation/grant proposal was made possible through core services and support from the University of Rochester Environmental Health Sciences Center (EHSC), an NIH/NIEHS-funded program (P30 ES001247).
