Teledentistry
What is Teledentistry?
Teledentistry is a new innovation that Eastman Dental is proud to be pioneering in the Rochester area. Teledentistry is a virtual dental visit in which the patient communicates with their dentist via videoconference, from the comfort of their home. It allows you to speak with and see your dentist without traveling to the office or clinic.
But doesn’t the dentist need to look inside your mouth?
Not all teledentistry appointments require looking in the patient’s mouth. For those that do, the dentist may use a specialized camera – or even the camera on your phone! Other teledentistry appointments may be scheduled for discussion purposes, such as treatment planning, follow-up conversations or financial planning.
Benefits of Teledentistry
Teledentistry is a convenient option for patients who do not need to be seen in person for their visit. If a patient needs a follow-up visit, they can avoid having to come into the office and easily see their dentist from their own home.
Cost of a Teledentistry Visit
Many insurance companies are now providing coverage for teledentistry visits. There may be a cost associated with your visit, such as a copay, but you should check with your insurance provider to confirm how much you can expect to pay.
Security and Patient Safety
Medical information shared with your dentist during this visit will be documented and safeguarded just as it would during an in-person visit. To maximize security and confidentiality, it is recommended that you complete your teledentistry visit in a quiet, private location where you can speak freely and without interruptions.
Technology Requirements for a Teledentistry Visit
After scheduling a teledentistry appointment, you will receive a secure link to participate in the visit via email. Your visit will require a computer, tablet or smartphone with internet access, a webcam and microphone, and the Zoom application. The Zoom application can be downloaded from App Store, Google Play Store, or get the desktop version.
