Maternal and Child Health Advisory Group
Maternal and Child Health Advisory Group
The Community Health Improvement Workgroup (CHIW) identified maternal and child health outcomes as a priority need in Monroe County in the 2019 Community Health Needs Assessment. Since then, it has remained a priority and an advisory group of content experts called the Maternal Child Health Advisory Group (MCH-AG) was created.
The primary intent when creating the MCH-AG was to enhance collaboration between health providers and programs, agencies, and community members to address key social drivers that impact the health of women, infants, children, and families across the life course.
The overarching goal of the MCH-AG is to: “Reduce racial, ethnic, economic, and geographic disparities in maternal and child health outcomes, and promote health equity for maternal and child populations.”
Membership
Since its inception, the group has grown to over 100 members from more than 45 organizations or departments across Monroe County. The interdisciplinary group includes clinicians, Doulas, counselors, social workers, and advocacy experts. The MCH-AG has met quarterly for the past six years, now via Zoom. To encourage transparency and inclusiveness, meetings are open to all.
