How to Apply

We welcome applicants from Pediatrics, Family Medicine, Midwifery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as other specialties, including MD, DO, CNM, or DNP. We accept applications from post-graduate level candidates who aim to assume clinical, academic, policy making or community leadership careers in breastfeeding and lactation medicine.

The exact nature of the training program will depend on the background and needs of the applicant; however, the fellowship is intended to develop clinical excellence in breastfeeding medicine.

Application Process

There currently is no match system for breastfeeding and lactation medicine, so acceptances will be offered individually. Applications are accepted from January-March for planned July 1 start. Applicants will be reviewed in a rolling fashion, offered an onsite interviews, with rolling decisions and offers after this point.

Application packet should be sent to contact information below, and should include:

  • Cover letter
  • Application form
  • CV including prior education
  • Letter from residency director indicating current standing and planned graduation date
  • Personal statement delineating the applicants reasons for pursuing fellowship and planned career path after completion of fellowship
  • Letters of recommendation (3) that can speak to your clinic interests in breastfeeding, educational background, and academic/scholarly productivity.

Interview Information

Applicants who are selected for an interview are notified by email and/or phone. Interviews will be held between January and Mid-March. In-person interviews are preferred so that prospective residents can get a better understanding of our program and we can better get to know you. However, phone/Skype/Zoom interviews can be arranged if necessary.

The Interview Day

Applicants can expect to talk with multiple faculty members and lactation consultants during their interview day as well as current fellows. For clinical fellows, visits to UR Medicine Breastfeeding & Lactation clinical sites, including outpatient and inpatient, will be arranged.
