Vital Discovery: Research

The URAI’s focus on scientific discovery will expand the breadth and depth of work on aging being conducted throughout the university community to build an enabling research infrastructure that promotes team science, data science and multidisciplinary aging studies.

The URAI will also promote national and international renown; expand federal and foundation funding; discover novel approaches to increase longevity and health span; and translate scientific discovery into innovative approaches to improving patient care and clinical outcomes.

Spotlight: Director of Wilmot Cancer Institute Visits Gorbunova-Seluanov Lab

This fall, Jonathan Friedman, M.D., M.M.Sc., took a walk across campus to visit the Hutchinson Hall biology lab of Vera Gorbunova, Ph.D., and Andrei Seluanov, Ph.D., who study aging and the connection to cancer. “They are working on discovering the ‘fountain of youth,’” says Friedman, “and their remarkable findings so far and their status in the field of aging research is renowned. We are fortunate to have them and their scientific team at the University of Rochester and as members of the Wilmot Cancer Institute.”
