Your Surgery
Pre-Surgical Screening
Before you have your surgery, you will be asked to complete a pre-surgical screen. This screen will ask about your heath history and current medications and will helps us to take great care of you.
There are two ways to complete this screening:
You may need to meet with an anesthesia provider before your surgery. If you need to be seen, our scheduler will give you a call and arrange a convenient time to meet with a member of the anesthesiology team.
A. MyChart: This is the preferred and fastest method for us to get in contact with you. This form will be sent to you electronically for completion if you have a MyChart account. Once completed our screening nurses will review it and contact you with any questions.
B. Telephone screening call: you will receive a phone call by one of our screening nurses over the phone to complete the screen. Pre-Surgical Screening: (585) 262-9150

Day of Surgery
Arrival
- You will receive your scheduled arrival time between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on the business day before your surgery. (Monday surgeries will receive a call the previous Friday.) Your arrival time will typically be 1 to 1½ hours prior to your surgery. The extra time before your surgery will be used to go over your health information and prepare you for surgery.
- Once you arrive, go to the reception desk to begin registration.
- After you’ve finished registering, you may go to the waiting area. A healthcare provider will be with you shortly.
Pre-Surgery
- In an effort to facilitate your check in on day of surgery, you will be receiving an E-check in questionnaire via MyChart 7 days prior to your scheduled surgery. Please fill this out anytime within the 7 days prior to your surgery.
- The healthcare provider will take you to the pre-operative area and ask you to provide a urine sample (if necessary). All female patients of childbearing age will need to take a urine pregnancy test at this time.
- Next, you will continue to your pre-op room.
- A registered nurse will review your health information and check your vitals.
- At this time, you’ll remove your clothing and change into a patient gown and slipper socks.
- After the nurse meets with you, two people– such as adult family members, your significant other or a friend–will be able to wait with you. No children under the age of 14 are allowed into the preop or postop areas. Please make arrangements for childcare if you have young children.
- You will meet with several members of your healthcare team prior to your surgery.
- Your surgery will take place once the operating room is ready. At that time, anyone with you will be asked to return to the waiting room.
Post-Surgery
- After your surgery, you will be taken to the recovery room. Up to two family members or friends will be able to visit you once you are awake and comfortable. No children under the age of 14 are allowed into the preop or postop areas.
- Family members of pediatric patients will be escorted to their child's room.
- Your discharge from the Surgery Center is determined by your surgeon and your anesthesiology team. On average, plan on staying in recovery from 30 minutes to 2 hours.
- Once you’re ready to go home, a nurse will go over your post-operative instructions and answer questions before you will be able to leave.
- You will not be allowed to drive yourself home from the surgical center or hospital. You will not be allowed to use a city cab, Uber, Lyft, or bus unless accompanied by an adult (age at least 18) who is responsible for you. It is also strongly recommended you have a responsible adult available to assist you for the first 24 hours after discharge.
