Tenure Track Open Rank Faculty Position:
Position Summary
The Department of Pharmacology and Physiology at the University of Rochester invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank. We are seeking outstanding candidates with a PhD and/or MD degree(s) and at least two years of post-doctoral training, with research interests in the use of pharmacological and physiological approaches/analyses to address significant unresolved problems in health and disease. We seek a creative, enthusiastic scientist with clear potential to secure extramural funding for their research program who will synergize with the highly collaborative environment of the Department and the strategic initiatives of the Medical Center’s broader research community.
The Department, which has added eight tenure-track faculty members over the past several years, offers outstanding research and graduate training environments. Established research strengths in the department revolve around cell signaling in the context of normal physiology and disease and include calcium signaling, extracellular matrix and cell adhesion signaling, G protein-coupled receptor pharmacology and signaling, and ion channel structure and function. While applicants with research interests in all areas in pharmacology and physiology are encouraged to apply, candidates with expertise and research programs focused on the structural biology and/or function of membrane proteins are of particular interest. The successful applicant will receive a competitive start-up package, generous laboratory space, and access to a wide range of state-of-the-art core facilities.
The University of Rochester Medical Center, the School of Medicine and Dentistry, and the adjacent Schools of Arts, Sciences and Engineering are part of a private, world-class research university, providing excellent opportunities for highly diverse, cross-disciplinary interactions and collaborations.
Applicant Instructions
Candidates should apply through Interfolio. Include a cover letter addressed to Dr. Robert Dirksen, Lewis Pratt Ross Professor and Chair of Pharmacology and Physiology; curriculum vitae; 2-3 page description of research plans; 2-3 recent key publications; Diversity/Inclusion Statement and three references. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and should be received before December 1, 2023.
Post-Doctoral Fellow:
Position Summary
Xia Laboratory - Application Date: 3/15/2023 -
Postdoctoral researcher positions funded by NIH are available to study synaptic mechanisms underlying intellectual disability, epilepsy and early onset Parkinsonism. We use transgenic mouse models, including lines mimicking human de novo mutation, for these studies. We also use lentivirus injection, in combination with (flox/+) mice or shRNA knockdown to study the effect of many human de novo mutations in protein phosphatases on synaptic functions. More information on our research can be found on our website: https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/labs/Xia-Lab.aspx.
Candidate Qualifications
Required Qualifications: • PhD in Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Physiology or other related field or MD.
- Candidate with experience in mouse studies and/or cellular electrophysiology is preferred.
- Candidate with more than 5 years of postdoctoral experience will be eligible for the research scientist title.
Applicant Instructions
Interested candidates should send the CV and names of three references to Dr. Hugh Xia, email: Houhui_Xia@URMC.Rochester.edu. Position will remain open until filled.
