Postdoctoral Position
University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry
Department of Pediatrics, Division of Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine
Infant Nutrition Lab – PI Young
Environment
A 2-3 year postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Infant Nutrition lab (PI: Bridget Young) in the Department of Pediatrics, Section of Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine at the University of Rochester. The lab focuses on early nutritional exposures that have long-lasting programming effects on infant health outcomes. Ongoing work in the laboratory includes assessment of bioactive hormones in human milk and differences in milk composition and infant developmental outcomes between infants fed exclusively at-the-breast vs expressed (pumped) human milk. The lab also studies how variation in infant formula carbohydrate ingredients affects infant blood sugar regulation and pancreatic function. We conduct intricate feeding protocols in healthy infants to study variation in metabolism based on nutritional status. We primarily work with primary patient samples but also utilize in-vitro simulations of digestion and cell culture models. Techniques employed by the laboratory include cell culture, molecular biology including qPCR, ELISA, immunostaining, in vivo studies, RNA sequencing and related omic technologies, and bioinformatics analysis.
Job Description
Under the direction of the principal investigator, the post-doc will contribute broadly to the lab’s mission while crafting an independent focus in an area of growth. This will include finalizing analyses and preparing drafts and figures for scientific manuscripts for studies that have completed sample collection. The post-doc will also participate in and supervise analyses of samples from ongoing infant cohorts. This individual may train or supervise research staff and students in the lab. Under the direction of the principal investigator, the post-doc will have the opportunity to design and conduct experiments and collect novel research data. The post-doc may develop new ideas to further current research. The position is available immediately. The initial appointment is for one year, with renewal expected if satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.
Qualifications
Candidates should have recently earned a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD degree in a broadly relevant field. Experience in molecular biology techniques and basic statistical analysis is required; additional relevant experience is desirable.
Location
The laboratory is located within the University of Rochester (UR) Medical Center in Rochester, NY.
Contact
Interested applicants should send a CV, cover letter with description of research experience and interests, and contact information for three references to Aubrey_Pusey@URMC.Rochester.edu
