Junior Faculty Mentoring
We welcome you to our departmental Junior Faculty Mentoring Program! This program will assist you in your faculty development and guide you in your career planning.
The guidelines for forming your Junior Faculty Mentoring Committee are as follows:
- Scheduling An Introductory Meeting With Dr. Dennis Kuo or Dr. Jill Cholette
Dr. Kuo and Dr. Cholette need to meet with each faculty member to provide an overview of the mentor program. Contact Michelle Josephson at michelle_josephsonr@urmc.rochester.edu to schedule an appointment. Please send a copy of your CV to Michelle prior to our initial meeting.
- Consulting With Your Division Chief
After meeting with either Dr. Kuo or Dr. Cholette, you should meet with your Division Director to discuss proposed mentors for your committee. Your committee should consist of a minimum of three faculty members, one of whom should be from outside our department (not division). Your Division Director can help you with possible names. This meeting should take place with in 3 to 4 weeks after meeting with Dr. Kuo or Cholette.
- Establishing Your Committee
Please invite each faculty member whom you and your division director have decided to be on your committee. If the faculty member agrees to serve (the time-commitment for the mentor is minimal; usually two committee meetings a year), please notify Michelle and your director who the members of your committee are. Your division director should not be one of your committee members.
- Scheduling Your Committee Meetings
Once your mentoring team is set, Michelle Josephson will schedule your mentor committee meetings. There should be at least two meetings during the academic year. Prior to your first meeting with your committee, please submit your CV and your one-year goals to each member of the committee.
- Submitting Your Annual Mentoring Report
Your first annual mentoring report is due in June through the REDCap link Annual Mentor Report. After submission, it will be sent to your division director for signoff.
