Curriculum

The goal of the fellowship is to provide in-depth and hands on clinical, administrative, teaching and research experience in laboratory management, medical directorship, and administration.  Additional formal education in medical management will be accomplished with completion of a masters of Science program in business administration.

Medical Directorship of an acute care lab (s) in the regional health system.  Under the supervision of the Director of Regional Labs the fellow will serve as the medical director at one or more acute care labs in the regional system.  This will familiarize them with regulatory requirements and the administrative functions of a laboratory medical director.

Masters Program in Medical Management at the Simon School of Business, University of Rochester - Enrollment and completion of the 2 year part time program.

Teach and Supervise Residents and Medical Technology Students:  The fellow will be responsible for laboratory administration didactics and supervision of the residents and medical technology students.

Research:  The fellow is expected to complete and submit for publication at minimum one research project in the areas of laboratory administration to include projects in quality, finance and laboratory utilization.

Elective Rotation:  The opportunity for elective rotations in anatomic subspecialty surgical pathology for those board certified or board eligible in Anatomic Pathology is available at the discretion of the Vice Chair for Anatomic Pathology.
