Adult MobilEyes
Our Adult MobilEyes Program is comprised of two groups - our Rural Vision Program and our Senior Vision Program.
Rural Vision Program
We currently serve two primary care locations in Wayne County to provide diabetic and refractive eye examinations by an Optometrist to patients who are unable to access eye care. Our primary focus for our Rural Vision Program is to provide vision services for patients diagnosed with diabetes.
Since our implementation of MobilEyes at the Primary Care clinics in Williamson and Marion, we have
- Successfully provided diabetic eye exams with personalized diabetic eye health education
- Increased communication between primary care providers and eye care providers
- Established relationships with patients to ensure continued care at an FEI location
Senior Vision Program
We have partnered with senior centers and senior living facilities to provide comprehensive eye exams, evaluating for ocular disease and refractive eye examinations by an Optometrist to patients/residents who may have limited access to an eye doctor.
* Please note that we are unable to provide exams at primary residences.
Our current collaborations include: URMC Williamson Primary Care, URMC Marion Primary Care, and St. John’s Home. In the past, we have provided vision care at Lifespan. We are continuing to grow and expand! If interested in a partnership, please fill out our MobilEyes Inquiry Form!
Vision Screenings
For adults, we provide near, distance, Amsler Grid testing (tests for changes to the center of your vision due to diseases affecting the center of the retina called the macular, like age-related macular degeneration), retinal photos, and eye pressure.
On-site Vision Exams
Our MobilEyes team delivers all the equipment to community sites with exams being conducted by an Ophthalmologist or Optometrist. Our vision exams involve a refraction or check for glasses and providing participants with a prescription for glasses and a complete eye exam that can identify diseases in the eye such as cataract, glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and help determine the need for glasses in some cases.
Follow-up Appointments
We would schedule any follow-up appointments at one of our Flaum Eye Institute locations.
Eye Diseases in Adults
Common refractive errors are corrected with glasses:
- Myopia (nearsightedness): close objects are clear but distance is blurry
- Hyperopia (farsightedness): distant objects are clearer but may have difficulty for near objects
- Astigmatism: a warped focus that causes blurry vision for near and distant objects
- Presbyopia: near vision and focusing becoming difficult with age
