Environmental Lectures in Global Health and Toxicology (EnLIGHT) Seminar Series
The Environmental Lectures in Global Health and Toxicology seminar series will resume in person seminar. This seminar series features research that encompasses multidisciplinary and cutting-edge approaches to understand how environmental agents (including chemical, nutritional, social, and economic factors) influence health and disease, and contribute to health inequities at local, regional, and global levels. These seminars are supported by our National Institute of Environmental Health Science Center (P30 ES001247), the Department of Environmental Medicine, the Toxicology Training Grant (ES007026), and the Institute for Human Health and the Environment.
Please join us in the Environmental Health Science Center Conference Room 4-8820. There will still be an option to join virtually through Zoom.
If you would like to be added to the seminar list serve or to discuss potential speakers, please contact Hae-Ryung Park.
The University of Rochester is committed to providing inclusive experiences and equal access to programs, services, and meetings. If you anticipate needing any type of communication access (ASL interpreting or real-time captioning), please contact Rebecca Ruston. In all situations, a good faith effort (up until the time of the meeting) will be made to provide accommodations.

EHSC Seminar Series: Understanding social and environmental risk factors for psychosis
David Dodell-Feder, PhD - Assistant Professor, University of Rochester Department of Psychology and Neuroscience
EHSC Seminar Series Highlighted Topic: Neurotoxicology and Air Pollution
Seminar narrative: Outcomes for individuals with a psychotic-spectrum disorder (PSD) are often poor, posing a profound burden to affected individuals and society. For that reason, increasing work has focused on better understanding potentially modifiable aspects of the environment that confer risk for PSDs. This research has uncovered a suite of social and physical/chemical factors related to the psychosis phenotype, though many open questions remain. In this talk, I will discuss several recently completed and ongoing studies in my lab to better understand some of these environmental risk factors and highlight areas for future research.

Marc Weisskopf, PhD, ScD - Professor, Harvard University
EHSC Seminar Series Highlighted Topic: Neurotoxicology
Seminar Narrative: Accumulating evidence suggests an association between perinatal air pollution exposure and autism spectrum disorders in offspring. Nonetheless, important questions remain and important epidemiologic methods issues complicate the assessment of this question. I will show some of our own work demonstrating some of these issues, and describe a novel method to assess some of the key aspects of bias that can arise.
