Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program

The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program at the University of Rochester is a four-year categorical program (PGY1-PGY4), accredited by the ACGME.

Our program trains its residents to acquire the essential knowledge and technical skills for rehabilitation and well-being of patients.  We also prepare trainees to practice independently in a variety of settings.  Our program promotes the development of research interests, as well as critical reasoning and administrative skills.

Our mission is to provide our residents with a balanced clinical experience, covering the broadest range of the field, and provide specialized training to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to practice to the fullest extent of their abilities.

What Sets Us Apart

Flexible Curriculum

There is flexibility in the program, and it is not uncommon for residents to change tracks during training as their learning objectives and career goals evolve.

Research and Mentoring

PM&R residents have the opportunity to participate in structured, supervised research with PM&R faculty, as well as collaborate with faculty from other departments and institutions.

Life of a URMC Resident

Our emphasis on work/life balance is an important reason residents choose URMC. A focus on trainees well-being enables you to learn and thrive in Rochester.

What Our Residents Say...

Chelsie Jacques, M.D.

"University of Rochester’s PM&R program has an amazing combination of a diverse patient population, broad clinical exposure, hands-on-procedural experience, and a very supportive environment. Our faculty are invested in our personal and professional growth, in addition to helping us achieve our career goals. The culture of the residency program is truly unmatched due to our wonderful faculty and residents. I have thrived in this environment and am very grateful to have received my training here."

Kenneth

"I chose URMC for my PMR residency because program culture is extremely important to me. From the moment I stepped foot on campus I felt comforted and accepted and knew I was in a place where I could thrive. Coupled with the fact that Rochester is a beautiful city with plenty of outdoor activities to keep my sanity outside of work and a diverse patient population, URMC was the obvious choice for PMR residency."
