Residents are exposed to every subspecialty area of orthopaedics, with a large volume of patients and multiple treating faculty specialists in each area and unique orthopaedic-plastic training.
Training Settings
- Work in the region’s only Level 1 Trauma Center at Strong Memorial Hospital.
- Residents experience the general practice setting of common orthopaedic problems in a community-based hospital (Highland Hospital).
- The Geriatric Fracture Center at Highland Hospital is renowned for innovation and excellence in treating bone fractures in elderly patients.
- Residents are exposed to a high-volume outpatient orthopaedic surgery center (UR Orthopaedics and Physical Performance Center - largest and most comprehensive in NE US)
- Clinical material from over 252,000 outpatient visits and 19,800 surgical procedures annually.
- Work at our state of the art Golisano Children's Hospital providing pediatric orthopaedic services in the region.
Resident Education/Curriculum
- Outstanding didactic program with daily lectures that are teleconferenced for viewing live from all clinical locations.
- Special Elective opportunities are available during chief year.
- Weekly hands-on skills training at the DeHaven Orthopaedic Skills Laboratory (KED lab).
- PrecisionOS Virtual Reality simulator
- Month-long intern skills training program ("boot camp").
Research
- Musculoskeletal Research Center with high-powered research faculty to provide an avenue for exploration of questions arising from clinical orthopaedic care.
- Dedicated research time during third, fourth, and chief years of residency.
