Primary Interprofessional Care Educator Fellowship
The Health Resources and Services Administration and the University of Rochester Medical Center’s Eastman Institute for Oral Health is offering two-year Fellowships providing comprehensive training in a wide range of areas provided by renowned specialists and experts who have years of experience in their fields.
This unique opportunity is part of the newly established National Dental Training Center for Primary Interdisciplinary Care (PIC) Educators.
The education and training consist of on-line formal courses leading to an Advanced Certificate in Education for Health Professionals, select Public Health Sciences courses, and courses in systematic reviews and scientific writing. The Fellows will spend three weeks annually at the University of Rochester, with airfare and housing provided. Each week will include seminars on interdisciplinary primary care and career development topics. In addition, the Fellows will attend the American Dental Education Association conference each year, as well as a leadership or other relevant conference. An important component of the Fellowship is career development with a home institution mentor supported by the Center’s faculty.
The long-term goal of the program is to support the career development of junior dental and hygienist faculty who are teaching in general dentistry, pediatric dentistry or public health dentistry, and help shape their ability to become leaders in primary care dentistry and as clinical educators.
Courses and seminars will cover teaching, scholarship, mentoring, and leadership. Planned topics are to include how to build the pedagogical skills of community based faculty, virtual teaching/learning, and assessing the impact of training activities.
Six selected PIC Fellows will be based at their home institutions, and will commit 55% protected time to their training during the two-year program.
CRITERIA: Candidates must be a fulltime Assistant Professor or Lecturer, with a clinical focus in general practice (GPR or AEGD preferred), pediatric dentistry, or public health (community) dentistry, and have U.S. citizenship or permanent residence.
For a detailed summary of the education and training over the two years, please see the PIC Fellows Education/Training Summary.
