Student Travel Awards
This program supports travel awards for UR students enrolled in:
- A graduate Ph.D. program related to neuroscience and performing their thesis project in a laboratory of a faculty member within the Neuroscience Graduate Program (NGP)
- An undergraduate performing a substantial project under an NGP faculty member, sufficiently engaged to present as a first author at a national meeting
Priority is for conferences of prominent national/international scope or prominent and well-established meetings that are more field-specific.
Mechanism and Level of Support
Awards of up to $1500 will be granted to successful applicants, to serve as partial support toward attendance. Students must be presenting as first author at the meeting.
Application Procedure
Applications should include:
- A personal statement by the student (1-2 paragraphs) stating the topic of research and its important contributions to the field, upcoming plans for completion of your thesis and expected defense (or paper in the case of undergraduates), and future plans
- Abstract of the student's presentation at the meeting
- A letter of support from the student's advisor that includes why the award is both meritorious and financially important

Review Considerations
Applications will be reviewed for scientific and technical merit as well as demonstrated need. Priority will be to support students nearing the end of their program, and/or those presenting invited or selected talks.
Application Dates and Process
Submissions are accepted at any time, but at least one month prior to the meeting.
An exception is the Society for Neuroscience meeting, in which case the deadline is the first Monday in October.
In general:
- Only one application may be submitted from a faculty lab
- Funds will be granted as part of the travel reimbursement process after the meeting. (Neuroscience business office)
