Blood Draw at Outpatient Lab

Child Life Specialists are uniquely trained to help with children's stress and anxiety during medical procedures, helping children develop coping skills.

We have a dedicated Child Life Specialist available to support you and your child in the Outpatient Lab at Strong Memorial Hospital at the following times:

  • Monday, 12:30 p.m.–4:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, 8:15 a.m.–12:00 p.m.

If your child has any special needs or conditions that may make a blood draw difficult for your child and you would like to speak with a Child Life Specialist before coming into the lab, please call (585) 275-9878. We may be able to help you create a plan of success specific to your child.

In some situations, if the child life specialist and the phlebotomy staff feel that more support is needed, they may contact additional staff from Golisano Children’s Hospital to see if they are available to help (this is not always possible).

If you have questions after a blood draw, please contact your provider or the outpatient lab at (585) 275-2153.
