In April 2020, our article "Impact of the Rochester LARC Initiative on adolescents’ utilization of long-acting reversible contraception" was published in the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology.

From 2014 to 2021, the Greater Rochester LARC Initiative was a project supported by grants from the Greater Rochester Health Foundation and the Rochester Regional Health Foundation. It was coordinated through The Hoekelman Center in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

Along with many community partners, the LARC Initiative offered free education on Long Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) to adults who talk to teens in both healthcare and community-based settings throughout Monroe County and Wayne County, NY. Our team of expert physicians and health educators provided evidence-based education about the safety, effectiveness, and availability of no-cost, confidential LARC for young people in the Greater Rochester area. We also offered education and advocacy training to youth peer leaders and educators.
