Danielle Marino, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. She is a gastroenterologist with expertise in cancer genetic risk assessment, cancer screening, and prevention. She has a particular interest in hereditary gastrointestinal cancer syndromes such as Lynch Syndrome, Familial Adenomatous Polyposis, and other Colorectal Polyposis Syndromes.
Carol W. Shaw, NP, ACGN, is a Nurse Practitioner with expertise in cancer genetic risk assessment and cancer screening and prevention. She is the Associate Director of the Hereditary Cancer Program and a certified Advanced Clinical Genomic Nurse.
Maria McGreevy, MD, is a Medical Oncologist with expertise in treating esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, colorectal cancer, neuroendocrine tumors, and anal cancer. In addition, she cares for patients with inherited cancer syndromes in our Hereditary Cancer Program to assess cancer risk, develop personalized cancer screening plans and help implement risk-reducing strategies.
Eran Tallis, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the division of Genetics. He started his medical career as a hematologist-oncologist in Israel and then pursued his Medical Genetics training at Baylor College of Medicine. His clinical and research expertise includes hereditary cancer syndromes, specializing in genetic syndromes affecting bone marrow and variant interpretation.
Nicholas Bartell, MD is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He is a gastroenterologist with expertise in genetic cancer risk assessment, cancer screening and prevention. He has a particular interest in Heredity Pancreatic Cancer and pancreatic screening and surveillance, as well as colon cancer screening in high risk populations.
Ashley L. Hendershot, DNP, FNP,ACGN, is a Doctorate-prepared Nurse Practitioner with clinical expertise in hereditary cancer syndromes, breast cancer screening and risk reduction, and women’s health. In addition to her clinical role, she leads quality improvement initiatives in the Hereditary Cancer Program.
Patricia Mallaber DNP, RN, ANP-BC is a Doctorate-prepared Nurse Practitioner with clinical expertise in hereditary cancer syndromes, genetic testing, and cancer prevention. She has experience in more rare cancer genetic syndromes and has special interest in improving access to care for those in rural areas.
Meghan L. Underhill-Blazey, PhD, APRN, is a Nurse Practitioner with expertise in cancer genetics and prevention. In addition to clinical practice, she is faculty at the University of Rochester School of Nursing and leads research to on how to help individuals understand and live with inherited cancer risk.
Allie Zeznick is a Physician Assistant in the department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. She is an expert in managing GI related symptoms and has a clinical interest in hereditary gastrointestinal cancer syndromes.
Kristina Streb, RN, OCN, is a Registered Nurse with over ten years of experience caring for patients with cancer, special training in cancer genetics, and a special interest in Lynch Syndrome. She is an Oncology Certified Nurse who provides patient education and supportive care.
Mystimarie Geiger, MS, GC, is a Genetic Counselor who joined the team in 2021. She provides in-depth education and counseling about cancer genetic testing, inheritance, results interpretation, and risk management.
Daniel Brennsteiner MPH, MS, GC is a Genetic Counselor. He provides in-depth education and counseling about cancer genetic testing, inheritance, results interpretation, and risk management. Daniel specializes in adult and pediatric cancer genetics and has a special interest in public health and health equity.
Michelle Juncaj is a Genetic Counseling Assistant who supports day to day functions to provide timely access to genetic testing by collecting an accurate family history, answering questions prior to the appointment, and then delivering prompt results disclosure with supervision.
Melissa Forney is a Physician Support Specialist who will coordinate new patient appointments, your cancer screenings, and follow up visits with our office.
Who else is on the Team?
This multidisciplinary team approach is unique to this program. For each inherited cancer syndrome, there are many organs that can be affected. We utilize the experts at the University of Rochester Medical Center to screen for cancer early and often. Early detection is key to the best outcome.
After your personalized cancer screening plan is made, we will refer you to cancer screening specialists who have an expertise in hereditary cancer syndromes. For example, if you require pancreatic cancer screening, we can arrange for you to be seen by a gastroenterologist who specializes in pancreatic cancer screening.
Cancer screening recommendations are made based on national comprehensive cancer guidelines, as well as the consensus of a multidisciplinary conference which meets monthly.
