Support & Survivorship

Wilmot Cancer Institute provides the full spectrum of care for multiple myeloma and other blood disorders, from initial diagnosis and treatment to recovery and rehabilitation. Our oncologists, and even many of our nurses, specialize in blood cancers.

We work in multidisciplinary teams.  Multidisciplinary means that our care providers include experts with a variety of specialties:  medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologist, pathologists, radiologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, chaplains, social workers and clinical researchers. They work together on your case to provide the most personalized care possible.

Survivorship

Wilmot's Cancer Control & Survivorship program is one of the oldest and most highly regarded research programs in the country to investigate the management of side effects, including cancer-related fatigue.

Treatment for blood cancers can sometimes take years. Patients usually require support after treatment and close monitoring by physicians. Wilmot provides the Finger Lakes area's most extensive support services for patients and their families.

Palliative care

At Wilmot Cancer Institute, physicians from UR Medicine’s Palliative Care Program are key members of the care team. Palliative care focuses on alleviating the pain and symptoms — such as nausea and shortness of breath — that can come with a serious illness like cancer and its treatment. Sometimes confused with hospice, palliative care can accompany any and all desired medical treatment for cancer or other conditions. It is about helping those facing cancer and their families live better while they’re undergoing treatment.
