HEROES Study - Health Effects (Renal) Of Extra Strength Avmacol
Research Question:
Does sulforaphane from broccoli extract in the form of Avmacol Extra Strength (ES)
decrease kidney disease progression rate, and decrease markers of oxidative stress
and inflammation in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) patients?
Basic Study Information
Purpose:
This study will determine if taking a daily broccoli supplement (Avmacol ES) can decrease
kidney disease progression rate and inflammation in patients with Chronic Kidney Disease
(CKD). The study will enroll 100 patients from the Kidney Clinic in AC3 and Highland
Hospital who have CKD stages 3-4.

months; Study visits at Strong Memorial Hospital for labs; Completing monthly health

Payment Details:
Study participants will be given $25 for each in-person study visit for a total of
