Clinical Education on the MIPS units
Inpatient Medicine in Psychiatry (IMIP) Unit
The IMIP's Unit is actively involved in training future clinicians and offers clinical rotations to medical students, nursing students, social work students. In addition, IMIP is a training site for pharmacy residents and fellows, psychology doctoral students and psychiatry, internal medicine and family medicine resident-physicians and subspecialist physician fellows.
- URMC Department of Psychiatry Residents. During the first year of their psychiatry residency training, interns spend 10 weeks working on the IMIP unit as part of their required internal medicine rotation
- Nursing Students. IMIP is a favorite capstone elective and group clinical rotation for many nursing students from schools throughout the region
- Pharmacy Residents and Fellows. IMIP hosts Pharmacists from area universities who are completing their clinical residencies and fellowships.
- Social Work Students. IMIP hosts social work students from area universities who are completing their BSW or MSW.
- University of Rochester Psychology Doctoral interns. Interns in the adult psychology track receive supervised training in integrated care on the IMIP unit, where they function as members of a multidisciplinary team and provide brief psychotherapeutic interventions, behavioral programming, psychological assessments, and didactics
- URMC Internal Medicine, Family Medicine and Med-Peds Residents. IMIPS services as an elective site for those interested in team-based care, medical-psychiatric integration and complexity interventions.
- URMC Medicine in Psychiatry Fellowship: This 1-year program is available to Internal Medicine or Family Medicine trained physicians with a strong interest in advancing their skills in caring for patients with co-occurring psychiatric and medical conditions, and substance use disorders. Substance Use, Infection Treatment and Support (SUMMITS)
The SUMMITS unit is actively involved in training future clinicians and offers clinical rotations to medical students, nursing students, social work students.
In addition, SUMMITS is a training site for pharmacy residents and fellows, psychiatry, internal medicine and neurology resident-physicians, and physician fellows in the subspecialities of addiction psychiatry and adolescent medicine.
