Fellows in the Pediatric Nephrology Fellowship attend regularly scheduled conferences, some of which are shared with the division of adult nephrology with which there is strong collaboration.
Pediatric Nephrology Clinical Conference
Clinical Case Review: Fellows and residents present an in-depth review of a particularly interesting kidney topic related to a current clinical case.
Dialysis Quality Review
This is an interdisciplinary meeting attended by the trainee, pediatric nephrologists, social worker, nutritionist, and dialysis nursing to review current management of the chronic dialysis patients. (Monthly)
Transplant Quality Review
This is an interdisciplinary meeting attended by the trainee, pediatric nephrologist, pediatric nurse practitioner, nutritionist, and social worker to review current management of post-transplant patients. (Monthly)
Pediatric Nephrology/Urology Conference
Trainees and faculty present cases involving kidney abnormalities requiring both medical and surgical management. (Monthly)
Pediatric Imaging Conference
Review of recent patient imaging studies with a pediatric radiologist. (Monthly)
Pediatric Nephrology Pathology Conference
Pediatric kidney biopsies are reviewed with renal pathologists. This strong interaction facilitates learning kidney pathology and sparks lively discussions about prognosis and treatment. (Monthly)
Pediatric Nephrology/Rheumatology Journal Club
Alternating Nephrology and Rheumatology presentation of a recent article of mutual interest, followed by discussion of the status and management of patients followed jointly. (Quarterly)
Didactic Conferences
Summer Pediatric Nephrology Fellows’ Boot Camp
Division faculty and senior fellows present one-on-one didactic lectures to first year fellows on core topics including acute renal failure and chronic kidney disease. This format provides an ideal environment for learning the basics of pediatric nephrology. (Weekly, July-Sept)

Review and presentation by faculty and fellows of topics from a Pediatric Nephrology text.
Fellows' Pathophysiology Seminar Series
Adult and pediatric trainees and faculty mentors read and discuss a seminal nephrology textbook over the course of the year. This team-oriented approach promotes active didactic learning. (Weekly)
Adult/Pediatric Nephrology Joint Journal Club
A recent article from a nephrology literature is presented. Particular emphasis is placed on articles which stress mechanisms of disease or basic biological processes. (Weekly)
Renal Grand Rounds
Speakers with expertise in nephrology present to a combined audience of adult and pediatric nephrologists. The conference is devoted to new developments in clinical nephrology, clinical research, and basic science research. (Quarterly)
Department Conferences & Meetings
The Department of Pediatrics hosts a variety of conferences and meetings that enhance clinical and research training, meet ABP and ACGME requirements, and give our fellows an opportunity to interact with well-established clinicians and researchers, both internal and external to URMC.
