Fellowship Research
The University of Rochester Clinical & Translational Science Institute (UR CTSI) promotes multidisciplinary and team-based research and the development of the next generation of translational researchers. In addition, many research faculty provide robust and productive experiences in NIH funded basic science research.
Mentorship and Research Support
With faculty mentorship, neonatology fellows gain research experience in an area based on their interests and career goals. Opportunities are available, within the division, across our department, and throughout URMC to work with M.D., D.O., and Ph.D. investigators who are national/international leaders in many areas. The Division of Neonatology has broad and significant strengths in clinical, basic, translational, quality improvement, biomedical ethics and educational research, which helps enhance our fellows' academic development.
Our Faculty
Clinical and Translational Research
Departmental and institutional support for fellowship research is available and includes educational support through the University of Rochester Clinical & Translational Science Institute (UR CTSI) and other training opportunities.
Basic Science Research
The Division is home to an active, multifaceted laboratory research program, housed in over 10,000 sq ft of space. The faculty includes 5 PhD investigators with laboratory programs focused on multiple aspects of lung development and disease, and 4 MD investigators with laboratory programs in lung biology, neonatal immunology and hematopoiesis. Many basic science faculty have mentored neonatology fellows to successful projects in their respective fields of interest.
Endowed Research Fellowship
Fellows who demonstrate a commitment to research and a strong potential for developing an independent physician-scientist career are eligible to apply during their first or second year of training for the Shapiro-Phelps-Maniscalco Endowed Research Fellowship. The Research Fellowship is designed to help recipients prepare for a career as a physician-scientist in clinical, translational or laboratory investigation. The Fellowship would protect additional, mentored research time during Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine training and provide resources for a fellow to continue focused research training for an additional year beyond their ACGME-accredited fellowship.
