Career Tracks
The Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program is committed to individualizing its curriculum to meet the needs and career focus of its fellows. A variety of educational/career tracks foster the development of clinically and academically useful, in-demand skills needed for a successful career today in pediatric hematology/oncology. Participation in any of the following tracks will lead to production of a scholarly work product that meets the ABP requirements for board certification. The following tracks are available to fellows:
Master Clinician
Fellows who wish to develop deep clinical skills in a specific area of the subspecialty may pursue a “Master Clinician” track, which provides additional ambulatory and/or inpatient enrichment activities throughout training.
Medical Informatics and Data Science
Fellows have the opportunity to further delve into medical informatics and data science under the mentorship of those within the division and in the institution at large.
Quality Improvement
As one of only eight institutions selected nationally by the ACGME to help transform the way we improve quality and safety, there is ample opportunity for fellows to focus on quality improvement throughout the division, department, and institution.
Medical Education
Fellows whose career goals include medical education have the opportunity to pursue a Masters in Health Professions Education offered through the Warner School of Education at the University of Rochester. Fellows receive a 95% tuition waiver for graduate courses and degree programs at the university.
Research
Traditional research opportunities are available throughout the department and university for fellows to participate in basic, clinical, or translational research.
Educational Activities
To further the professional development of our fellows, our Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program has a comprehensive conference series that covers a variety of clinical, research, and educational topics pertinent to the practice of pediatric hematology/oncology.
The Department of Pediatrics hosts a variety of conferences and meetings which enhance clinical and research training, meet ABP and ACGME requirements, and give our fellows an opportunity to interact with well-established clinicians and researchers, both internal and external to URMC.
