Breast/GYN Pathology Fellowship

The Breast/GYN Pathology Fellowship at the University of Rochester Medical Center is a one year program that provides a thorough exposure to diagnostic breast and gynecologic surgical pathology as well as multidisciplinary management of breast and gynecologic disease. The department signs out approximately 3,099 in-house breast cases, 890 breast consult cases, 13,008 in-house gynecologic cases, and 279 gynecologic consult case yearly. The main objective of the program is to provide the fellow with proficient diagnostic skills, in-depth understanding of the implications of pathologic diagnoses in the management of breast and gynecologic cancer patients, and a unique translational research experience.

The fellow will conduct intraoperative gross examinations of breast and gynecologic specimens, sign out both in-house cases and consultation cases from outside clinics and hospitals, and discuss the cases at the weekly Multidisciplinary Breast Care Clinic Conference (Monday morning) and the Multidisciplinary Gynecologic Conference (Friday morning). The fellow will also have the opportunity to conduct clinical and/or translational research projects which will be tailored to meet the individual's interests. The breast pathology subspecialty is comprised of 8 breast pathologists under the leadership of Dr. David Hicks, an internationally recognized breast pathologist. The gynecologic pathology subspecialty is comprised of 8 gynecologic pathologists under the leadership of Dr. Sharlin Varghese. Our subspecialty services are committed to providing outstanding diagnostic services for excellent patient care and preparing the next generation of pathologists to be experts in the challenging fields of breast and gynecologic pathology.

We are currently recruiting for a Women's Health fellowship for academic year 2024-2025, with an opportunity for both Breast and GYN subspecialty in Pathology.
