Michael Stanton, M.D.
Daily Hours 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Description: Highland Hospital is a 261-bed, full service hospital established in 1889. It became part of the University of Rochester Medical Center in 1997, and the URMC Department of Neurology began providing full consultative neurological services at Highland Hospital in 2004. A core group of five neurologists provide the bulk of attending coverage on the neurology consult service. The neurology service also attends on patients who present with acute stroke and are treated with t-PA during their 24-hour stay in the ICU.

Third year medical students who rotate through Highland Hospital spend two weeks on the inpatient neurology consult service, working closely with a first-year neurology resident and an attending neurologist. Medical students should expect to encounter a full spectrum of neurological diseases at Highland Hospital. With only one resident and one student on service, and with a relatively lighter case load, there is a significant amount of direct interaction between medical students and attendings at Highland.

Expectations:

  1. Students will make rounds with the resident and attending on one morning of one weekend during their two-week rotation.
  2. Students are excused on Tuesday afternoons to attend their required lectures at Strong. They are not expected to return to Highland after their lectures.
  3. Students are excused on Friday mornings to attend Grand Rounds and required lectures at Strong. They are expected to return to Highland on Friday afternoon.
