Welcome from the Chair
I am Jennifer Harvey, Chair of Imaging Sciences. I started in January 2020, just before the pandemic set in. I enjoy and hope to foster the culture of our department and institution, which values transparency, fairness, respect, diversity, inclusion, and professionalism. My vision for the department spans across all missions. Clinically, we are streamlining services and worklists. We are implementing a comprehensive equipment plan, including building our PET-MRI and spectral CT service lines. Regarding education, we are starting a Residency Leadership Program that includes the business of healthcare; education; diversity, equity, and inclusion; quality and safety; and research through didactic teaching and workshops and the option to specialize that may include masters or certification programs. These are also available to faculty. For research, we have a new energetic Vice-Chair for Research who will be developing a master’s degree program in Imaging, reinforcing our research infrastructure, and recruiting new scientists.
We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion with a dedicated DEI officer and committee. Our institution has an anti-racist action plan that we support and participate in. We are inspired by Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony who both lived in Rochester, and were actually good friends.
We have an active Wellness Committee and a robust Faculty Development Program that includes mentoring. We support our faculty both professionally and personally.
I enjoy living in Rochester. The city is culturally rich with the Eastman School of Music and numerous summer festivals. The restaurants are superb and diverse in offerings. The cost of living is very low. Mostly, I really enjoy the people. It is somewhere between the practicality of New Englanders and the friendliness of the Mid-West. People tend to be very down-to-earth.
I hope that you will consider joining us. The motto of the University of Rochester is Meliora, which means Ever Better. I invite you to be part of our growing transformative department.
