How to Apply
We seek candidates with a strong educational background and well-rounded academic and personal experiences. We welcome and encourage applications from all qualified candidates. We require USMLE Step 1, a medical school transcript, a medical school performance evaluation ("Dean's letter") and three letters of recommendation. You may solicit letters of recommendation from any faculty members who know you well, but we suggest that they be from physicians who are familiar with your clinical work.
Appointments to the residency program are made at the PGY-2 level. Successful completion of an ACGME approved PGY-1 is required. A surgical internship is preferred.
The Department of Imaging Sciences participates in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). All positions are filled through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).
NRMP University of Rochester Program Code
Interventional Radiology, Integrated - 1511416A0
Applications for the Interventional Radiology Integrated Program will be accepted, through ERAS.
Criteria
Members of the residency selection committee review the applications and then invite candidates to interview. Selection criteria are subjective. Most important are evaluations and grades in clinical rotations, with special regard to performance in the core clerkships; class standing and membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) honor society; record of research and publications; performance on the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), particularly Step 1; and personal characteristics and life experiences, as ascertained from the Dean's letter, letters of recommendation, personal statement, and interview. We review each application as a whole, and we do not have a threshold value for USMLE scores. However, our average accepted resident USMLE Step 1 score usually is above the national average for radiology residents.
All letters of invitation are sent thru ERAS by email. Interview slots are limited and are filled on a first-response basis.
All interviews will be conducted virtually, given the pandemic. Details will be communicated once an interview is offered.

We want you to have an enjoyable and informative visit to the University of Rochester Medical Center. The interview day is an opportunity for you to learn more about our department—the programs, facilities, faculty, and residents—and for us to learn more about you.
The day consists of an introduction from the Department Chair and Residency Program Director, followed by a tour of the facilities, interviews, attendance at the radiology resident conference, and lunch. Applicants typically have three or four faculty interviews. The interview provides an opportunity for us to get to know you better and serves as a forum for us to answer any questions you may have regarding our program. The interview day concludes by 3:00 p.m.
