Message from the Director
Mary Anne Morgan, MD
Greetings! I am honored to be the Fellowship Director of the Pulmonary and Critical Care Program at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC), where clinical excellence, research innovation, and an enduring legacy in medical education coalesce to create a collegial community of clinicians, scholars, and educators.
With the wide-ranging clinical, educational, and research opportunities as our bedrock, my goal as Fellowship Director is to spark in fellows the curiosity and dedication needed to meet the challenges of our rapidly-evolving field, to pursue the questions yet unanswered, and to serve the needs of our diverse community. My greatest professional satisfaction is working side-by-side with fellows as they evolve into leaders in their own right.
“Meliora” (meaning “ever better”) – the motto of the University of Rochester – encapsulates the spirit of our training program. We focus not only on improving the care of our patients through teaching top-notch clinical skills and involving fellows in research and scholarship, but we also embrace innovation in training and medical education. We are thrilled about several new training initiatives sure to enhance fellowship training over the upcoming years.
A bit about me: I am a native Rochesterian who spent the bulk of my academic training in the San Francisco Bay Area. I was drawn to the University of Rochester by its focus on the humanitarian aspects of medicine, not only in its approach to medical education but also in its pioneering work in developing the Biopsychosocial Model. What has kept me here—and fulfilled—is our incredible medical community, from our multi-talented PCCM faculty to our consultants, residents, and, most importantly, our fellows.
Rochester is not only an incredible place to train and practice medicine, it is also an extremely livable city, where you can buy a house, bike trails, swim in a lake, eat great food, and go to a free concert, all in one day!
Thank you for your interest in our PCCM program. We hope to welcome you to our team!
