Inpatient Block
First-year: The 2-week inpatient block is run primarily by the 1st year fellows. The fellow is the team leader, incorporating a multidisciplinary group that includes nurse practitioners, diabetes educators, medical students, and residents.
The first-year fellow continues to participate in the two continuity clinics on a weekly basis while being on the inpatient block. The fellows are scheduled with their own patients under the guidance of an attending preceptor.
The following clinics are continued during the inpatient block
Diabetes Clinic
The first-year fellows have a diabetes continuity clinic one half-day per week thru out their fellowship, where they work closely with faculty, diabetes educators, and nutritionists, to master the care of type 1 and type 2 diabetics. This clinic provides fellows with extensive training in insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring.
General Endocrine Clinic
Throughout their fellowship, fellows have a general endocrine continuity clinic one half-day per week. Here they see patients with all endocrine disorders, including thyroid dysfunction or cancer, adrenal disease, bone disorders, obesity, transgender issues, and much more. During their third year, fellows see patients independently, with faculty supervision only as needed.
Call Service: The call service is shared by the 1st and 2nd-year fellows with an average of 1-2 night call(s) per week and an average of 1 weekend per month.

Outpatient Block
First year: The first-year fellows will have the following clinic during the 2-week outpatient block.
Metabolic Bone Disease Clinic
First-year fellows attend the Metabolic Bone Disease clinic one-half day per week. In this clinic, the fellows see patients with both osteoporosis, review dexa scans and see rare and complicated metabolic diseases.
Thyroid Biopsy Clinic
During the first years, the fellows have up to four ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration one-half day per week. The cytology is reviewed in the multi-disciplinary conference with a thyroid pathologist in 24 hours.
Fellows Urgent Clinic
The first-year fellows participate in a one-half day per week in the Urgent clinic. In this clinic, urgent patients with a variety of endocrine conditions like hyperthyroidism, gestational diabetes, hypoglycemia etc. are scheduled. The patients are scheduled under the fellows under faculty supervision.
Multidisciplinary Pituitary Clinic
Our nationally recognized pituitary clinic is the largest in the region and one of the largest in the Northeast. First-year fellows attend the Multidisciplinary Pituitary Clinic one-half day per week. In this clinic, the fellows see patients with both medical and surgical pituitary experts. Fellows follow patients both in outpatient and inpatient (postsurgical) settings.
Transgender Clinic
The first-year fellow rotates one-half day once a month. The clinic offers a multidisciplinary approach toward the support of transgender individuals under the supervision of faculty, some of whom have national reputations in the field of sex steroid biology, and are highly trained in the use of all types of hormone therapy.
Thyroid Cancer Clinic
The first-year fellow rotates one-half day thrice a month. Our thyroid cancer clinic at the University Of Rochester Medical Center is run in collaboration with experienced endocrine surgeons, head and neck surgeons (ENT), pathology, and nuclear medicine.

Outpatient: During the second year, fellows continue to see patients in the continuity clinic as well as in some specialty clinics. All of these clinics are one-half day per week.
Diabetes Clinic
