Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons are the surgical specialists of the dental profession. Oral surgeons complete four-to-six year hospital based surgical residencies that train them to diagnose, and surgically and adjunctively manage diseases, injuries, and defects involving both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the skeletal and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial regions.
As board-certified Diplomates of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, they practice a full-scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, with expertise ranging from corrective jaw surgery to wisdom tooth removal. They perform dental implant procedures, and diagnose and treat facial traumatic injuries, facial pain, and TMJ disorders.
