Welcome from the Program Director
Welcome to the Eastman Institute for Oral Health Prosthodontic Residency Program. Since 1968, we’ve successfully provided residents to thrive and become highly qualified clinicians. Our environment allows our residents to discover and develop their talents and interests, both professionally and personally, through our faculty and staff, curricular structure, and commitment to collaborative and interdisciplinary education. The entire prosthodontic team is passionate about dentistry and our program.
Residents and fellows come from around the world to become part of our Department. We have an extremely supportive international alumni group and a dedicated group of faculty members, who are committed to the excellence of our programs. We embrace technological, research and didactic innovations and look forward to making like-minded applicants like you part of our Prosthodontic family.
Our program continues to flourish and grow. We now have three residents per year and have several part-time and full-time faculty incorporating all major prosthodontic subspecialty fields. The training covers all aspects of Prosthodontics in a comfortable, supportive learning environment that is continuously improved through collaboration. The program is accredited by the Commission of Dental Accreditation (CODA) and requires a Master’s certificate in Clinical and Translational Science.
We base the training on the CODA requirements and competencies and prepare our residents to become certified by the American Board of Prosthodontists. There is extensive training during the residency program that provides comprehensive education and training in all phases of Prosthodontics, including fixed, removable, implant and maxillofacial prosthodontics. The program combines didactic, clinical, and research activities and emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach to complex prosthodontic patients. Teaching and learning is a progressive multiple-avenue process that incorporates inpatient and deliberate outpatient continuity experience supervised by a faculty.
Our residents are a talented and diverse group, sharing commonalities including team cohesion, as well as the desire and passion to learn, teach and explore. We are a family and develop a bond that is carried on well beyond graduation.
The department of Prosthodontics has a long history of excellence since its inception by Dr. Allen A. Brewer in 1968. Through the years, and thanks to the efforts of Dr. Gerald N. Graser (former Chair) and Dr Carlo Ercoli (current Chair), the department takes pride in its long history of distinction in educating and training future leaders in prosthodontics and implant dentistry. It provides its students with the most inclusive and collaborative environment for a fun learning experience while ensuring innovative educational opportunities that are at the forefront of dental education. The department accomplishes all of this while establishing an atmosphere where inquisitiveness and curiosity in research is fostered, and delivering excellent value to our residents, fellows and patients.
