Funding Opportunity: Empire Clinical Research Investigator Program
The Empire Clinical Research Investigator Program (ECRIP) is funded by New York State through the Department of Health and is designed to prepare researchers and research teams to compete for federal funding in clinical and translational biomedical research. The University of Rochester Medical Center has been a major beneficiary of this program, having hosted 22 individual ECRIP projects and two center projects supporting 13 trainees since 2002.
This year, the State is again offering Center Awards: theme-based projects in a strategically important area of research for the institution, involving research teams with experience as federally-funded investigators and clinical research fellows who must be trained as physicians, dentists or podiatrists. Funding for the first two rounds of ECRIP Centers was set at about $600,000 per year for two years. The exact amount for the coming cycle is uncertain and depends on the number of applications funded. Center projects must begin no earlier than April 1, 2017 and no later than December 31, 2017. Full program details are available on the NYS Department of Health ECRIP website.
The University is allowed to propose only one primary Center application and one secondary application, which will be awarded if sufficient funds are available. The internal application review process requires interested parties to submit a brief one-page abstract (no particular format is required) describing the proposed ECRIP Center project. The project director and mentors must be identified, as well as proposed fellows, with assurances that they will be available to participate fully in the proposed program. Abstracts will be reviewed through a process led by Karl Kieburtz, M.D., M.P.H., senior associate dean for Clinical Research, and Robert Holloway, M.D., M.P.H., principal investigator of the CTSI KL2 Career Development Award Program. One or two applicants will be invited to submit full applications. Please note the following application timetable:
-
November 14, 2016, 8:00am – Abstracts are due in electronic form to Katie Libby (katherine_libby@urmc.rochester.edu)
-
November 21, 2016 – One or two applicants will be invited to submit full applications.
