The Big Picture
Golisano Children's Hospital provides the children of the Finger Lakes Region with specialty and sub specialty pediatric services, experience and outcomes that rival and exceed those of larger children’s hospitals across the country. We strive to be the local children’s hospital that rivals national hospitals with a unique patient experience and superior outcomes.
Why It’s Important, and How We'll Do It
To provide a broad complement of specialty and subspecialty services for children, we partner with Children’s Hospitals from across central and western NY to ensure children of our communities receive high-quality services close to home. We will enhance how we provide care by expanding telemedicine and the pre-visit experience, improving patient transitions and put and a team focus on quality, safety and the patient experience.
Goals & Accomplishments
Goal: Build Upstate New York Service Lines That are High Quality and Have Potential for Growth
Accomplishments:
- Hired 61 Faculty
- Created and grew new programs to treat children with aerodigestive disease, chest wall deformity care, intestinal motility disorders, dermatologic conditions, and epilepsy.
- Responded to “tripledemic” census spike by flexing to meet patient demand
- Pediatric Surgical Department earned Level 1 Trauma designation
- Three medical divisions were recognized as top 50 performers by US News. Grew behavioral health inpatient and outpatient capacity
Goal: Promote an Institutional Culture of Learning that Optimizes Quality, Safety, Outcomes and Patient/Family Experience
Accomplishments:
- Implementation of Quality Improvement (QI) plans to promote error prevention and a culture of safety
- Formed Quality Assurance (QA) committee to monitor quality and safety across all URMC areas that take care of children
Goal: Partner with Community Providers, Facilities and Patients to Increase Access and Referrals to GCH Care Services
Accomplishments:
- Improved access through Increased capacity of eConsult and Telemedicine programs
- Improve care transitions for all patients

- Centering the Family Voice - Launched in 2020, the Family Connection Program has leveraged caregiver input to improve outcomes
- Level 1 Trauma Designation - GCH has been designated as a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons and New York State, the highest possible classification for trauma care and evidence that GCH is delivering best-practice treatment, education, and research in the field.
