About Me

I grew up in the Rochester area playing a number of sports and enjoying the skiing, swimming and boating of the Finger Lakes. After graduating from Palmyra-Macedon Central School I attended college in Baltimore, Maryland where I played basketball and learned to love lacrosse.  I went to medical school at Cornell, which is located in New York City. I stayed in New York to do my residency training in Orthopaedic Surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery. I came back to Rochester in 1993 to do extra training in spine and scoliosis surgery, and I have been here ever since! I really enjoy working with children and adolescents because they have such energy, drive and desire. They are fun to be around, and they are so motivated to get better and to return to an active life. The treatments that we give to young people can have valuable benefits throughout their entire life, which is rewarding to me as a physician. When I am not at work I enjoy being outdoors. I love fly fishing, biking, and shooting baskets with my children.

Academic Interests

I have always valued research in Orthopaedics. My current interests include looking at whether patient reported outcomes assessment tools can help us predict the outcome of spinal surgery, and looking at ways to maximize the value of what we do for patients and society. I have collaborated on several projects over the years with our Center for Musculoskeletal Research, which is the foremost laboratory for musculoskeletal research in the world. My clinical interests include scoliosis in all ages, kyphosis, stress fractures of the spine, spondylolisthesis, and disc herniation.
