Porter Anderson Endows Lindsey Professorship for Pediatric Research

Professorship donors receive more than a plaque on the wall – they get in on the ground-floor of important research, teaching or clinical care.

Donors decide to endow chairs because they want to have a major role in launching a specific program or research initiative or funding the teaching and mentoring mission.

Endowed chairs are given to faculty who are viewed as having demonstrated exceptional vision and services critical to the mission of their fields and institutions. They are one of the highest honors bestowed by the academic community.

“I felt very honored to get this award, especially since it was made possible by Porter Anderson who was one of my mentors during my fellowship training,” said Francis Gigliotti, M.D., chief of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Golisano Children’s Hospital. “For the very same reason, I also feel a deep sense of obligation to live up to the award.”

Professorships are a wonderful resource because they allow faculty to hire personnel, equipment or other lab needs that are not covered by grants, Gigliotti explained. This speeds the pace of research, especially in times like these when National Institutes of Health grants are harder to obtain.

Thanks to the Lindsey Professorship, Gigliotti has the resources to continue making a difference in the lives of children in our area and beyond.
