CANVAS: Snapshot Geospatial Analysis

Canvas Snapshot

CANVAS Snapshot, the current version of the Cancer Visual Analytic System is an award-winning geospatial analysis tool that delivers comprehensive, real-time data exploration and comparison. Designed to juxtapose internal patient data with a wide range of external data sources, Snapshot is a powerful addition to the Hyperion suite of tools supporting data-driven healthcare decision making.

With Snapshot, clinicians, researchers, administrators, and others at the University of Rochester, Wilmot Cancer Center can view multiple maps side by side for comprehensive and detailed comparisons. They can compare lung cancer mortality rates with incidence rates, or population data with household incomes, poverty rates, or a myriad of other socioeconomic indicators.

Alongside patient data from our own Hyperion Database, Snapshot includes data from SEER Data Cancer Statistics; NYS Cancer Registry and Cancer Statistics; the NCI Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program; and the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey.

Features:

  • Multiple Maps:
    • Users can create up to 4 maps at once, all on the same scale for seamless and unbiased comparisons.
  • Internal with External Data:
    • By pairing internal and external data, users can look at the whole picture simultaneously, as illustrated in the video above.
  • Choice of Regional Focus:
    • Maps can be configured to display the data for all of New York State or focused on Wilmot Cancer Institute (WCI) catchment area.
  • Choice of Geographic Region Size:
    • Data visualization by either county or zip code lines, ensures Snapshot provides precisely the level of detail needed.
  • User-Friendly Data Filtering:
    • Intuitive drop-down menus facilitate drilling down into the data, enabling refined, detailed comparative analysis.

Snapshot is a tool that harnesses the power of geospatial data, fuses it with real-time internal patient data, and presents it in an intuitive, user-friendly interface. This unique combination empowers healthcare professionals to make informed decisions, backed by robust, comprehensive data.
